PelicanLakeMapAt 3,760 acres Pelican Lake is a large body of water located in west central Minnesota. It is a shallow lake with a max depth of only 21 feet but boasts great fishing and water recreation opportunities. The water quality indicates that is a fertile lake with 18 varieties of aquatic plants. The prized walleye is abundant in this lake as the DNR manages the population. There has been an increase in gill net catches the past few years and the size structure of the walleyes are very good. Approximately 83% of the fish sampled in 2009 exceeded 15.0 inches in length. Pelican Lake also offers a great Largemouth Bass population. They grow them big in this lake with a mean length was 15.1 inches. The largest bass sampled was approaching 20.0 inches.

Pelican Lake is also well suited for recreational activities such as boating, sailing and water sports. It is used by the residents of Ashby but also attracts tourist attention as it is close to Fargo, ND and the Alexandria/Fergus Falls area. The nearest town to Pelican Lake is Ashby, located just north of the lake. This tiny town of less than 500 is a small, friendly community located in a setting of beautiful lakes, farms and scenic woodlands. It offers a few lodging and dining options as well.
