Lake Minnewaska is the 13th largest lake in Minnesota covering 7,110 acres.It is located in Central Minnesota. For the size of the lake it is relatively shallow with a max depth of only 32 feet. It is a popular lake for anglers and recreational water activities. It also has a few public swimming beaches, one in Glenwood and the other in Starbuck. Also known for its fishing, Lake Minnewaska offers a wide range of fishing opportunities. The lake is managed for walleye and although the population has decreased in the last few years, the walleye population has remained higher than expected. Walleye are not the only thing anglers target at Lake Minewaska. Other popular fish include largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, northern pike, and yellow perch. Over the years largemouth and smallmouth bass populations have expanded in recent years. It has actually become a popular choice for organized bass tournaments. If panfish is more your style there are an abundance of good sized bluegill and crappie found in the lake. When choosing Lake Minewaska be aware that the lake does have evidence of water milfoil and curly-leaf pondweed so all boaters are responsible for inspecting their boats and removing all aquatic vegetation before leaving the water access.

Lake MinnewaskaOn one end of the lake is the town of Glenwood with a population of about 2,500 people, it boasts some great dining and lodging spots. If on the wastern shores of the lake you will encounter the small community of Starbuck, with around 1,200 residents. It does not offer much in the ways of dining but has one of the best beaches on Lake Minnewaska. Lakeshore park was voted by AAA Magazine as one of the top 5 beaches in Minnesota. If you are looking to camp while visiting Lake Minnewaska just 5 miles south of Starbuck is Glacial State Park. It offers over 40 campsites, with several lakes, ponds and marshes in the park.

If you are on the eastern end of the lake there are a few camping locations located near the town of Starbuck.

Starbuck Marina and Hobo Park Campgrounds – Located on the western shores of Lake Minnewaska. The campground consists of 100 sites with electrical hookups along with many tent sites.
