CHARLESTON, S.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Yamaha Marine Group announced today that the Charleston Water Taxi has re-powered for the second time in two years with a pair of Yamaha F150 outboards. This time, the outboards they are replacing are still running strong after 8,700 hours of use each.
In 2011, Yamaha Marine Group acquired the original two F150 outboard motors from the vessel, each of which had more than 6,800 hours of use. They had powered the 40-foot, 16,000-pound Catamaran, which ferries passengers across the Charleston Harbor.
Having had such a good experience with the first set of F150s, Water Taxi owners Scott Connelly and Chip Deaton re-powered with a second set of F150s. Now it’s time for the third.
“These outboards just run and that’s all there is to it,” said Connelly. “We do take recommended steps to take care of them, but the effort on our part is minimal. Change the oil, add a little Ring Free to the fuel, replace the plugs and the water pumps when necessary – that’s it. We couldn’t ask for more from outboards we typically run for more than 10 hours straight every day.”
Yamaha plans to test the performance of these well-worn outboards and then share the results with dealers across the country, proving that the F150 is the outboard of choice when it comes to reliability and longevity.
Stay tuned for updates as Yamaha collects and shares the test results of these two outboards – F150s that have truly stood the test of time and of the elements.
