What It Takes
Being inducted in to the Fishing Hall of Fame is no easy task. It has nothing to do with how many fish one has caught or how many tournaments they’ve won. Enshrinement is based on high moral and ethical standards, being a pioneer in an aspect of freshwater fishing and being recognized for excellence and innovation. Larry Colomobo symbolizes all criteria for the Fishing Hall of Fame. Colombo was a long time board member for the Hall of Fame. He also headed up the Marketing arm of Humminbird. Larry is credited with much of the success that Humminbird has seen over the years but says it to the quality of the product and the people he worked with that make it great.
Larry Colombo worked in the fishing industry for 29 years, 23 of it with Humminbird. During his tenure he has taken many celebrities fishing such as legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight and St. Louis Cardinals Manager Whitey Herzog. But there has been times where Colombo has been fooled. He once received a phone call from Joe Namath asking for Larry to take him fishing, they set up a date but when Larry arrived there was no sign of Joe Namath. The only person who showed was legendary fisherman Bill Dance, who jokingly asked if he had heard from Joe Namath lately.
A celebration of that induction was held at Techsonic headquarters in Eufaula where Larry was surrounded by co-workers, friends and family. Former Humminbird CEO Jim Balkom spoke during the celebration about the positivity and fire that Larry brought to his job everyday and the friendship they formed over the years.
